Guess what I'm doing...

Artists!

It's a complicated and tumultuous time in life and our professional careers. One piece of great advice I got recently is to "find joy wherever you can." I have taken that to heart in more ways than one!

I find joy in seeing artists succeed with a strong personal brand and content strategy to back it up so they're getting hired and their work produced successfully.

Each winter I mentor and instruct college-age artists in my Personal Brand Marketing For The Performing Artist class at Western Michigan University. It is most definitely my happy, happy, joy, joy place!

For the first time, I am opening up this course for you to take with me online.

The class is broken down into four parts:

I. The Artist As A Brand

II. Your Marketing Ecosystem

III. Content Creation and Implementation

IV. Outbound Marketing: Cultivating Community and Making Connections

Reader, How was your Thanksgiving? My sister burned the turkey but gravy, just like a great, rousing 11'o clock number of a musical, saved the day. And having my girls and hubs by my side made it a perfect celebration. (The Pumpkin Pie was A+!) This just in: I am working with an award-winning professional regional theatre in California to help reorganize and reboot their marketing to be digital-first in their processes and content. Are you in a similar position? Are you in need of someone to...

Reader! It's been an incredibly busy transition from summer to fall here at Theatre Marketing Lab. A follower on Instagram direct-messaged me last week and asked, "where are ya? miss u" To use the language of my Gen Z daughter Eliza, "Mom, your aura used to be bussin'. Now it's cringe." Fair assessment, Eliza! I want to bring you up to speed on how TML has transitioned to serve you better. Grab a cup of coffee or cocktail Reader! (depending on when you are reading this email.) What We Know...

Reader, I've been thinking a lot about our Gen Z theatre kids and audiences. Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, are between 13 and 28 today. They, as they say, are our future. We are seeing them on Broadway in mounting numbers. If you don't yet know who Ryan McCartan or Sarah Hyland are, ask your nearest Gen Z human. They're spending a lot of time online with these artists. I had the absolute pleasure of seeing two of my local community's finest Gen Z artists last week. As Lucille and...
